The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has commended the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) for suspending transire processing to bonded warehouses and free trade zones with outstanding reconciliation.
In a letter dated September 25, 2026, and signed by its Secretary-General, Fwdr. Godfrey Nwosu, NAGAFF described the move as a strategic step towards safeguarding national security, strengthening compliance and improving revenue generation.
The association said the suspension would help block potential revenue leakages while promoting greater transparency and accountability across Customs collection points.
To consolidate the measure, NAGAFF recommended the deployment of automated reconciliation systems to track transire movements in real time, alongside continuous capacity building for Customs officers and freight forwarders.
It also called for regular engagement with bonded warehouse operators, free trade zone managers and freight forwarders, as well as risk-based monitoring and an integrated revenue assurance framework across collection points.
NAGAFF reaffirmed its readiness to collaborate with the Customs Service, expressing confidence that the measures would support stable revenue collection and strengthen Nigeria’s economic resilience.
