The Media Anti-Corruption Initiatives, MACI, has strengthened its partnership with the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, to promote prevention focused anti-corruption advocacy, ethical journalism and fact based reporting in Lagos.
The renewed collaboration followed a courtesy visit by a seven man MACI delegation, led by its Team Lead, Mr. Funso Olojo, to the Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Lagos Zonal Office, Mr. Chukwurah Alexander, at the Commission’s Lagos office on Tuesday, September 15, 2026.
Receiving the delegation, Alexander described the media as a critical partner in the ICPC’s public enlightenment and corruption-prevention mandate under Section 6 of the ICPC Act, 2000. He commended MACI’s efforts to discourage public participation in corrupt practices and welcomed stronger collaboration between the Commission and the media.
The meeting focused on developing a structured collaboration model that would place greater emphasis on preventing corruption through public awareness, responsible reporting and citizen engagement, rather than relying solely on investigative and enforcement measures after alleged offences have occurred.
Among the key areas agreed upon were continuous training and capacity building for journalists on anti-corruption reporting, adoption of global best practices in anti-corruption communication, and clearer distinction between information and actionable intelligence in investigative reporting.
The organisations also agreed to explore a data-sharing framework to support fact-based journalism, as well as joint mobile and community-targeted sensitisation campaigns aimed at increasing public awareness and participation in anti-corruption efforts.
Speaking after the meeting, Olojo reaffirmed MACI’s commitment to supporting the ICPC’s anti-corruption mandate, stressing the importance of public participation in building a more accountable society.
He said, “If we must achieve the Nigeria of our dream, the people must be actively involved.”
Olojo further described the ICPC as a coordinating institution within Nigeria’s anti-corruption architecture and pledged MACI’s commitment to promoting responsible journalism that advances integrity, accountability and transparency.
The MACI delegation comprised Olojo, LOD Onyeji, Tunde Ojudun, John Iwori, Abba Collins, Esther Komolafe and Ruth Sunday.
