The NAGAFF Electoral Commission (NECOM) on Friday, August 21, 2026, kick-started the Western Zone chapter elections with the Seme Chapter, where Maazi Egbuchunem Chekwube emerged victorious as the newly elected Chairman.
Speaking exclusively with NAGAFF Cargo Watch shortly after his victory, an excited Egbuchunem described his emergence as a dream come true and declared his readiness to begin the task of rebuilding and repositioning the chapter.
“I feel very, very happy. It is a dream come true,” he said, adding that the next step was to begin the “big assignment” entrusted to him by members.
Explaining why he contested for the chairmanship position, Egbuchunem said he was driven by a desire to make meaningful impact, stressing that leadership provides the platform to turn good intentions into action.
He pledged to place the interest of NAGAFF above personal considerations, maintaining that every achievement recorded under his leadership would be a victory for the association.
“If I do well, NAGAFF comes first. The glory goes to NAGAFF,” he stated.
The newly elected Chairman identified unity and reconciliation among members as his immediate priority, promising to restore hope and bring members of the Seme Chapter together.
“The first thing is bringing the whole NAGAFF members together in Seme, giving them hope and restoring their hope,” he said.
Egbuchunem also promised to project a positive image of NAGAFF in Seme, strengthen the relationship between the chapter and the national leadership, and foster closer collaboration with the Nigeria Customs Service.
He dismissed claims that non-members participated in the election, insisting that those who took part in the exercise were members of the association.
Meanwhile, the newly elected Vice Chairman, Pastor Austin Okeke, described the election as a great experience and commended the leadership of NAGAFF, NECOM and other officials for conducting what he described as a free, fair and successful election.
“At the initial stage, it looked as if the election would not go properly, but we thank God that at the end of it, everything went well,” Izundu said.
He promised that the new leadership would be built on transparency and togetherness, stressing that the administration would carry every member along, irrespective of their choice during the election.
“NAGAFF is a great and loving family. Both those who voted for us and those who didn’t vote for us, the door is open for them. We are not here to fight anybody,” he stated.
Okeke also expressed appreciation to the founder of NAGAFF , Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, the president of NAGAFF, High Chief Tochukwu Ezisi, members of the Board of Trustees, elders and NECOM officials for their roles in the successful conduct of the election.
The Seme Chapter poll marks the beginning of the NAGAFF Western Zone chapter elections, as NECOM continues the electoral process across the zone.
