Kebbi Customs, Nigerien Counterparts Strengthen Collaboration to Boost Trade Along Kamba Border Corridor

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kebbi Area Command, has strengthened its collaboration with the Nigerien Customs to facilitate legitimate cross-border trade and improve economic activities along the Kamba–Tungan Gyado border corridor.

The initiative followed a meeting held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at the Kebbi Area Command Headquarters, where the two Customs administrations discussed emerging challenges affecting trade along the corridor.

The meeting was attended by the Customs Area Controller (CAC), Kebbi Area Command, Comptroller Mahmoud Matawalle Ibrahim, Comptroller, Douanes du Dosso, Niger Republic, Abdoulaye Vincent, Chairman, Dendi Ganda, Sarkin Shikon Kamba, Mamuda Zarumai, Secretary-General, SNAT Gaya, Abubakar Inusa, and other stakeholders.

Speaking during the engagement, Vincent appreciated the Kebbi Customs Command for hosting the Nigerien delegation and called for stronger cooperation between the two countries Customs administrations, particularly in facilitating trade through the Kamba corridor.

He explained that insecurity along the Burkina Faso and Togo routes, coupled with the prevailing diplomatic situation with Benin Republic, had disrupted trade activities, making the Kamba corridor increasingly important for legitimate cross-border commerce.

Vincent therefore called for increased legitimate exports through Kamba, noting that greater trade activity would help boost revenue and ease economic hardship among communities along the corridor and beyond.

Responding, the CAC, Comptroller Ibrahim, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Nigerien Customs and facilitating legitimate cross-border trade.

He said the Command would sensitise traders and other relevant stakeholders on Customs procedures while encouraging greater utilisation of the Kamba corridor.

According to him, increased legitimate trade would not only enhance revenue generation but also create employment opportunities and improve the livelihoods of border communities.

The CAC also disclosed plans to visit the Nigerien Customs Command in Dosso to further deepen bilateral cooperation and promote trade facilitation between both countries.

The engagement concluded with an expression of appreciation from the Sarkin Shikon Kamba, Mamuda Zarumai, who commended the CAC for providing an enabling environment for legitimate business activities.

He also praised the Customs Area Controller for demonstrating concern for the welfare and economic wellbeing of the people of Kamba and prayed for the success of the collaboration between the two Customs administrations.
