The conference, scheduled for Friday, November 13, 2026, at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, will bring together policymakers, maritime regulators, industry leaders and other key players to discuss the future of Nigeria’s maritime industry.

Omatseye is expected to chair the conference, while Oyetola will attend as the Special Guest of Honour. Akabogu, on his part, will deliver the keynote address.

Scheduled to commence at 11:00 a.m., the conference is themed “Seaport Modernisation, Trade Facilitation and Revenue.”

The discussions will focus on the performance, policy direction and operational efficiency of Nigeria’s maritime sector under President Bola Tinubu’s administration, with particular attention to port modernisation, trade facilitation and revenue generation.

According to the organisers, participants will examine issues surrounding seaport modernisation, the renewal of critical infrastructure, improved trade facilitation, ease of doing business, revenue growth and strategies for curbing financial leakages.

The conference will also explore opportunities for expanding the marine and blue economy, creating employment, strengthening maritime safety and security, and enhancing the competitiveness of Nigeria’s maritime sector.

Expected attendees include heads of government agencies, managing directors of shipping companies, terminal operators, freight forwarders and other industry players across the maritime value chain.

The Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists said the conference was designed to promote informed dialogue, strengthen public- and private-sector collaboration, and advance policy initiatives capable of improving port efficiency, facilitating legitimate trade and boosting government revenue.

The organisation further noted that the gathering would provide an opportunity for maritime journalists to strengthen their role in promoting accountability, offering informed industry analysis and encouraging constructive engagement on policies and reforms shaping Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.

The press statement was jointly signed by Elder Dele Aderibigbe, Chairman of the Network of Nigerian Maritime Journalists, and Jerry Aguigbo, the organisation’s Public Relations Officer.
