The Ogun State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the rights of the girl child, promoting education and preventing social vices as part of activities marking the 2026 International Day of the Girl Child.

The sensitisation campaign, organised through the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), took the Command to Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School and Baptist Girls’ College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, on Friday, October 16, 2026.
Led by the POCACOV State Coordinator, ASP Opeyemi Oluborode, the outreach was held under the theme, “End Child Marriage & Invest in Girls’ Rights.”
Speaking on “Breaking Boundaries: Shaping the Future of the Girl Child,” Oluborode educated the students on gender equality, access to education and the need to protect girls from child marriage, discrimination, abuse and other harmful practices.

He encouraged the students to pursue academic excellence, build self-confidence and remain disciplined, stressing that gender should not limit their ambitions.
The students were also warned about the dangers of cultism, drug abuse, cybercrime and negative peer influence. They were urged to reject child marriage, speak out against abuse and seek help from trusted adults and relevant authorities whenever their safety or rights were threatened.
In response, the students pledged to shun social vices, uphold their rights and responsibilities, and remain committed to academic excellence.

The management of both schools commended the Nigeria Police Force for the initiative. The Principal of Baptist Girls’ College, Mrs Osunbara, and Mrs A. Akeweje, Vice Principal (Administration), who represented the Principal of Abeokuta Girls’ Grammar School, appreciated the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, for prioritising child protection and youth development.
Ojajuni stressed that protecting children and empowering young people were essential to effective crime prevention. He called for stronger collaboration among the Police, parents, school authorities and community leaders to safeguard children against abuse and exploitation.

The Commissioner urged parents and educators to remain vigilant, report suspected cases of child abuse and support initiatives that promote the safety, education and well-being of the girl child.
The Command assured residents that it would sustain public sensitisation and strategic partnerships to protect vulnerable persons and promote public safety across Ogun State.
